Buckner Filter

Chemists have a sense of humor, although it is a bit cruel. Today in my chemistry class, we were working on a lab, the biggest lab of the year. We have to identify an unknown substance, and so far I am convinced that it is crack. Today, we were doing gravimetric analysis (I still don’t know what that is) and we had to filter out our precipitate (the thing that went to the bottom of the beaker after the reaction) and we used a ‘Buckner Filter’.

outfield, which consisted of Jason Bay, Brad Wilkerson, and Jeff Bailey all showed off some great arms. A lot of the time, I think that defense is underrated because as of late, everything has been measured on lots and lots of hitting. We have to remember that it is important.
Tales from a Rain Delay Stakeout

From what I can tell, the majority of you try to get to your baseball games as early as humanly possible. That was the story for me on Saturday as my mother and I drove to Jupiter hoping to scalp tickets to a sold out game. We got there around 10:45.

The World Baseball Classic produces a Classic

I cannot tell you how happy I am that baseball is back. I woke up at 9 am today (I don’t know why) and watched four editions of ’30 Clubs in 30 Days’ (yes, I am addicted). I have to say, I really enjoy watching that show, but my favorite part of the show isn’t the analysis.

unt was 3-2… talk about a conflict! Don’t worry though, I ended up rooting for my country. That’s the beauty of baseball right there. Jason Bay represented the tying run of the game. Had he hit a ball into deep right, the game would have been tied, the entire tournament could have been different! That is one of the many things that I love about baseball.
Back to the Red Sox

It’s done! It’s finally done! Thank you all for the positive support that you have shown me throughout this entire process. From topics to write about, to the intro paragraph to the outline to the rough draft, you guys were always there for me. I think that speaks wonders for the wonderful community that we have here.

they are ready to go and that they feel great. The article about Lugo made me feel a little bit guilty though. I didn’t forget about him!! Maybe I was just– angry! I know that he has always been a second half guy but… that doesn’t mean that he’s allowed to blow off the first half! After reading that article, I’ve decided that the shortstop spot is completely wide open. I don’t want Julio to be nervous about living up to his contract. That’s the problem with all the money in baseball these days, it puts pressure on these guys. I hope that Pedroia, Youkilis and Papelbon don’t let their nice contracts get to them. I don’t think they will.
Someone give Jason a Sign!!

Tomorrow is Friday, which means that we will finally know whether Jason Varitek will be returning. My endless crusade for his return for the past three months will finally come to an end. You have heard from me countless times about his intangible impact on the pitching staff and what not, but this weekend be prepared to hear something new. I hope that tomorrow evening [presumably], I will be posting a celebratory entry, with tears of joy rolling down my cheeks, and Jason Varitek brownies will be cooking in the oven.

Ringing in the New Year in Canada
Well I hope everyone had a fabulous New Year’s Eve, and that you ringed (rung?) it in well. I was actually in an elevator when the clock struck midnight. I can’t say that I had a “white” Christmas like some of you up north and out west, but I did have a “white” New Years. Nope, it didn’t snow in Miami… come on, the weather NEVER changes there. I’m in Canada with one of my friends, Christina (who is playing the really amusing game, Bubble Trouble), right now. I don’t think we’re anywhere near Homer.. we’re in Mont Tremblent, skiing. Surprisingly enough, I’m not as bad as I thought I’d be. It’s not like I can do those crazy tricks, or go down Black trails yet.. but I’m going down the blues

Game 2 Homerun Derby
Yet again, an unhealthy Beckett took the mound in this disappointing Game 2 loss. Everytime the Red Sox got a run, the Rays would answer, and vice-versa. Every time someone got into a deficit, the other team would come right back along answering with a home run. 7 home runs in one game tied the record. Dustin Pedroia hit two out, and Kevin Youkilis and Jason Bay went deep also. Once again, Beckett was not his normal postseason shut down. What happened? The middle relief did pretty well, we used our entire bullpen except for Paul Byrd. I don’t know why we used Timlin and not Byrd. The minute Timlin started walking to the mound, I (and probably the entity of Red Sox Nation) knew that the game was over. Timlin loaded up the bases and then gave up a sacrifice fly to end the game to BJ Upton. Byrd probably would’ve done better, but nobody knows. Papelbon was in for 30 pitches. I hope he’s okay to pitch Monday night. Can you believe the eruption of Evan Longoria after he was silenced in Game 1? The Rays were a bit more loose tonight. It was quite an exciting game to watch, but also frustrating for both sides. Quite honestly, I would’ve rather Wakefield in tonight with Beckett’s crap performance. And now the series goes back to Fenway.
Jed Lowrie with a walk off hit
To start off on an irrelevant note, I was unaware of the fact that they put stars around profane language. I’ll have to watch myself seeing that I curse like a sailor.
